Back to Work Enterprise Allowance

This Irish scheme is available to people who are setting up in a business that has been approved in advance in writing by a Job Facilitator or Partnership Company. To qualify, they must be receiving or entitled to Jobseeker’s allowance for 12 months, or unemployed (or in training) for two years and receiving one of a number of other welfare benefits.

Under the scheme, a claimant's welfare benefit continues to be paid for the first year at the rate of 100% and for the second year at the rate of 75%.

It may be accompanied by Technical Assistance and Training (TAT) which will cover certain start-up costs such as training, mentoring, driving lessons, insurance and small items of equipment. The normal ceiling is €1,000 plus help with pubic liability insurance.
