International Pilot Group 22 Sep 14

1st meeting of the International Pilot Group for Social and Solidarity Economy – 22 September 2014 at the United Nations in New York

A meeting to bring together states and institutions engaged in the promotion of the social and solidarity economy (SSE) and debate its future, namely: how to develop the SSE across the world, particularly through legislation and finance?

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, at the UN headquarters, the Rencontres du Mont Blanc Association (RMB) – the International Forum of Leaders of the Social and Solidarity Economy, is holding the first meeting of the ESS International Pilot Group on Monday 22 September from 4 to 6 p.m. in conference room 8) with the support of the French government.

This platform was launched in November 2013 at the 6th edition of the International Forum of ESS Leaders in Chamonix, France, and was officially announced by the President of the French Republic François Hollande. It consists of states (currently: France, Ecuador, Morocco, Luxembourg, Colombia and Quebec as observer), international institutions and civil society. On 22 September, its stakeholders will meet for the first time to discuss and move forward on two major issues:

  1. The development of the SSE in the world, and particularly on public policy towards the SSE (legislation ...)
  2. Support for the creation and development of companies in the ESS in the world, particularly through the issue of funding.

At a time when the UN representatives will promote sustained economic growth and sustainable development, the international ESS pilot group's objective is to present them with concrete proposals for a another form of economy which is more humane, innovative and promising.
